Know your application. Explain your plans clearly.
Know the application you submitted
In this Short, Rebecca Ding-Lee highlights five preparation problems: unfamiliarity with your application, unclear or inconsistent answers, unfocused responses, insufficient explanation of ties abroad, and missing supporting documents.
Keep answers truthful and focused
Review the facts in your application and be ready to explain your travel purpose and plans in your own words. Answer the question asked clearly. Concise answers should never mean concealing relevant facts or inventing a more convincing story.
Bring evidence relevant to your category
The video encourages applicants to support their statements with documents. For a visitor visa, official guidance identifies trip purpose, intent to depart, and ability to cover costs as matters for which additional evidence may be requested. Check the instructions of the embassy or consulate handling your interview.
Editorial context: requirements differ by visa category. Ties-abroad considerations are not identical for every visa; H-1B and L applicants are excluded from the immigrant-intent requirement discussed in the State Department’s INA 214(b) guidance. No checklist guarantees approval.
